Lactic acid is an alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) used to exfoliate, lighten dark spots, and improve fine lines and wrinkles. This is achieved due to its capability of speeding up cell turnover and cell renewal where new cells replace old cells. When old cells are replaced, the pigment-stained cells are replaced with new clean cells, this reduces and fade the appearance of dark spots and hyperpigmentation and filling up fine lines.
When used regularly, it can do wonders for the skin and is one of the most gentle hydroxyl acids among the others.
Lactic acid peels are often performed by a dermatologist or aesthetican , but light, superficial peels are safe to do at home.
It is advisable as a first user to start low by using a mild lactic acid concentration and study how your skin tolerates the peel then concentration is gradually increased .
Warning:
Do not use this professionally grade peeling solution without a professional supervision if you have;
sensitive skin,
facial scars
recurrent cold sores,
medical problems
pregnant/breast feeding.
Do not perform an at-home peel without talking to your aesthetican or dermatologist first.
If you take prescription medications, speak to your doctor before using a lactic acid peel.
